Overview
The Yacht Service Technician Apprenticeship Program was established by MIASF in partnership with the Florida Department of Education and Atlantic Technical College. It is the state’s first registered Yacht Service Technician Apprenticeship Program and is designed to help apprentices build a strong foundation of shipyard skills while starting their careers in the marine industry.
This two-year program combines classroom instruction with on-the-job training. Apprentices work full-time with a participating employer while attending class one evening per week at Atlantic Technical College.

About the Program
Working with the Florida Department of Education (FDOE) and Atlantic Technical College (ATC), MIASF established the State's first registered Yacht Service Technician Apprenticeship Program (YSTAP). The two-year program gives apprentices a basic set of shipyard skills to jump start a career in the marine industry.
The Yacht Service Technician Apprenticeship Program offers a high-wage, high-skill, and high-demand career path that fills a specific need for skilled workers in the marine industry. Working closely with MIASF and local employers, Atlantic Technical College developed a robust curriculum that includes rigging, forklift an crane operations, pipefitting/plumbing, welding/fabricating, carpentry, and painting.
A skilled workforce is critical to the growth of the marine industry and this program is the first step in training the next generation of skilled trade workers that needed.
How To Apply
1. Build Your Resume
Your resume is your first impression. Make sure it is professional, clear, and up to date.
2. Send Your Resume
Email your resume to apprentice@miasf.org. MIASF will review it and, if approved, share it with participating employers.
3. Get Connected with an Employer
If selected, you will begin working full-time with one of the participating employers while preparing for classes.
4. Start Your Training
Apprentices attend class one evening per week at Atlantic Technical College while also receiving full-time on-the-job training with their employer. Over two years, apprentices gain hands-on experience in marine trade skills such as welding, hydraulics, carpentry, yacht painting, HVAC, and more.
5. Earn Your Credentials
Throughout the program, apprentices can earn industry-recognized certifications including AED/CPR, OSHA Maritime-10, and Forklift. Graduates also earn a diploma from Atlantic Technical College and certification from the Florida Department of Education.
