Program Overview
McFatter Technical College’s Marine Service Technologies program prepares students for technical careers in the pleasure-boating and marine-service industries. The program focuses on developing the hands-on skills needed to inspect, diagnose, maintain, overhaul, and repair boats up to 50 feet and their mechanical systems.
Students train in marine rigging, outboard engines, engine diagnostics, fuel-injection systems, stern drives, inboard gasoline and diesel engines, and basic marine electrical and electronics installation. Strong reading, mathematics, computer, and mechanical skills are important for success in the program.
Education and Career Pathways
The full program consists of six occupational courses totaling 1,350 hours and can be completed in approximately 12 months. The course sequence includes Marine Rigger, Outboard Engine Technician, Outboard Engine Diagnostics, Inboard Gas Engine Technician, Drive Train Technician, and Inboard Diesel Technician.
Training can prepare students for employment as marine riggers, outboard or inboard engine technicians, marine electricians, electronics installers, parts personnel, and service writers. McFatter also identifies industry-certification opportunities connected to manufacturers including Mercury Marine, Yamaha Marine, Suzuki Marine, and Evinrude-BRP.

Admissions
Applicants must complete McFatter Technical College’s enrollment process, which may include a basic-skills assessment or approved exemption, a meeting or orientation with a program counselor, and registration during open enrollment. Space is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
