Program Overview
St. Thomas Aquinas High School is a private Catholic college-preparatory school in Fort Lauderdale offering several academic and extracurricular opportunities connected to marine science, ecology, and environmental conservation.
Marine-focused coursework includes AICE Marine Science and dual-enrollment courses in Marine Biology and Ecology offered through St. Thomas University. Students explore marine organisms, ocean environments, Florida ecosystems, biodiversity, conservation, climate change, and habitats such as coral reefs, seagrass beds, mangroves, and intertidal communities. Eligibility and prerequisites vary by course.
Students can also participate in the Marine Biology Club and the school’s Surfrider Youth Chapter. Activities may include guest speakers, marine laboratory experiences, beach and waterway cleanups, sea-oat planting, removal of invasive species, conservation projects, and shark-tagging experiences with scientists.
