South Broward High School

Marine Magnet Programs

South Broward High School offers hands-on marine education that prepares students to continue into college, technical training, and careers connected to the marine industry. As Florida’s first public high school Marine Magnet program, South Broward gives students opportunities to study marine biology, ocean science, environmental conservation, and the protection of marine ecosystems.

Students learn through classroom instruction, laboratory activities, coastal field experiences, and partnerships with marine organizations and universities. The school’s marine pathways also include marine mechanics, marine engineering, and underwater robotics, giving students opportunities to build technical skills and explore different sides of the marine industry.

Marine mechanics students may receive industry-focused training supported by Yamaha, while engineering students can design and build remotely operated underwater vehicles for competitions. Students may also participate in marine research and conservation experiences such as shark-tagging activities.
