Program Overview
STAR Center is a nonprofit maritime training center in Dania Beach, Florida, operated as a division of the Safety & Education Plan of American Maritime Officers. The center primarily trains professional deck and engine officers, while also serving other eligible merchant mariners when space is available.
Through classroom instruction, hands-on exercises, and advanced simulators, STAR Center helps mariners meet U.S. Coast Guard and international STCW requirements, maintain professional credentials, and prepare for higher-level positions aboard commercial vessels.
Training and Career Pathways
Training is available in deck operations, marine engineering, navigation, safety, emergency response, vessel security, dynamic positioning, tanker operations, and other specialized areas. Courses may support license renewals, upgrades, STCW endorsements, specialized vessel assignments, and continuing professional development.
STAR Center also operates the Engineering Candidate Hawsepipe, or TECH, Program. This pathway is designed for selected high school graduates and veterans interested in training for careers as seagoing marine engineers.
