Program Overview
St. Thomas University’s Bachelor of Science in Marine and Environmental Science prepares students to study coastal ecosystems, ocean life, environmental challenges, and the relationship between science and public policy.
Students choose between Marine Sciences and Environmental Sciences tracks while building a foundation in biology, chemistry, mathematics, research, and scientific analysis. Small cohorts, laboratory instruction, and field-based learning give students opportunities to study South Florida’s coral reefs, seagrass beds, mangrove estuaries, wetlands, and coastal environments.
Education and Career Pathways
The Marine Sciences track includes coursework in marine biology, biology of fishes, estuary biology, animal physiology, marine ecology, and oceanography. Students learn to evaluate marine organisms and ecosystems, collect and analyze scientific data, and study the effects of human activity on coastal environments.
Graduates may pursue careers in marine research, fisheries biology, aquaculture, coastal resource management, environmental consulting, conservation, water-quality analysis, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations. The program can also prepare students for graduate or professional study in marine science, environmental science, ecology, and related fields.
