Program Overview
Palm Beach State College’s Marine Service Technology program prepares students for entry-level careers maintaining and repairing boats and marine equipment. The Career Certificate Program combines classroom instruction with hands-on laboratory training and experience working directly on boats at the College’s Lake Worth campus.
The curriculum follows American Boat and Yacht Council entry-level standards and introduces students to marine safety, shop practices, rigging, electrical systems, propulsion, diagnostics, and boat-maintenance procedures. Students can also prepare for ABYC student-level certification before completing the program.
Education and Career Pathways
The 1,350-hour course sequence includes marine rigging, outboard engines, inboard gasoline and diesel engines, engine diagnostics, drive trains, and introductory marine-service skills. Graduates may pursue entry-level employment with dealerships, independent repair shops, boat-maintenance facilities, marinas, and other marine businesses. Potential positions include marine technician, service advisor, parts specialist, and related service roles.
