Scholarship Contests

As part of the Broward County Waterway Cleanup, MIASF supports the next generation by offering scholarship contests for middle and high school students in Broward County.

Students can participate through creative contests connected to the cleanup, environmental awareness, marine stewardship, and protecting the waterways that define South Florida.

Design Contest

Create the official artwork for the 50th Annual Broward County Waterway Cleanup. The winning design will become the official artwork for the 2027 event and may be featured on event marketing materials, digital promotions, printed materials, merchandise, and the official Waterway Cleanup T-shirt.

  • $500 grand prize

Recycled Art

Create an original work of art using recycled and repurposed materials. Artwork should celebrate Broward County waterways, marine life, or environmental stewardship while inspiring others to protect our marine environment. There will be three thre total prizes, one for each grade group.

  • Students grade 6-12
    • Group one: 6-8 grade
    • Group two: 9-10 grade
    • GroupL: 11-12 grade
  • $250 prize per grade group
  • Due February 5, 2027

Short Story

Write an original fiction or nonfiction story that explains why Broward County’s waterways matter. Stories should highlight the environmental, historical, recreational, or economic importance of local Broward County waterways and marine life.

  • $250 grand prize
