Junior Achievement of South Florida


Program Overview

Junior Achievement of South Florida’s Marine Service Technician Pre-Apprenticeship is a six-month, work-based learning program designed to help graduating seniors and young adults begin careers in South Florida’s marine industry.

The marine career track uses curriculum developed with the Marine Industries Association of South Florida and combines career-readiness instruction with hands-on training, industry exposure, job shadowing, and opportunities to connect with marine employers. Participants explore the engines, systems, shipyards, workplace practices, and customer-service skills used throughout the local marine service industry.

Participants also build practical workplace skills including resume development, interview preparation, communication, teamwork, problem-solving, personal branding, service paperwork, parts lookup, technical notes, customer communication, and professional conduct aboard yachts and within marine businesses.

Program Format

Six-month pre-apprenticeship featuring classroom instruction, hands-on activities, career-readiness training, job shadowing, employer exposure, and instruction from Junior Achievement staff and industry professionals.

Credentials

Graduating high school seniors and young adults ages 17–24 who live in Broward or Palm Beach County and are interested in entering the marine service industry

Who It Serves

  Students interested in careers involving ships, yachts, underwater vehicles, marine technology, naval engineering, offshore systems, ocean research, robotics, acoustics, hydrodynamics, and marine materials.

Eligibility & Enrollment

Applicants must meet the program’s current age, residency, and education-status requirements. Transportation assistance may be available. Enrollment periods, class dates, certifications, and available career tracks may change by cohort, so prospective participants should review the current program page before registering.
